If you desire straighter teeth but don’t like the idea of wearing metal braces, Invisalign may be the right option for you. While there are many treatments to straighten your teeth, Invisalign is the only solution that is free of brackets and wires.
Using a series of removable aligners, Invisalign gradually moves your teeth to their desired position over the course of treatment. The clear trays are custom-made to fit your individual bite and meet your unique smile goals. Here’s a look at the advantages of Invisalign and what you can expect from treatment.
Why should I choose Invisalign?
Both traditional braces and Invisalign are effective methods for straightening your teeth. However, there are some surprising advantages to choosing Invisalign as an adult. These include:
- Invisalign is “invisible.”
Invisalign aligners are clear and virtually invisible to those around you. This is a major advantage for adults seeking a subtle teeth-straightening method that doesn’t call attention to their treatment. You can go about your normal life without anyone noticing that you’re wearing Invisalign!
- Invisalign is comfortable to wear.
Invisalign trays are made of smooth, flexible plastic. Unlike metal brackets and wires, the trays don’t cause discomfort and irritation to the gums, lips or cheeks.
- Invisalign works quickly.
Compared to other teeth-straightening methods, Invisalign works fast. On average, total treatment time with Invisalign is 12-18 months, and many people notice results in a matter of weeks.
- Invisalign aligners are removable.
One of the greatest advantages of wearing Invisalign is that you don’t have to alter your lifestyle. The aligners are removable, which means you can brush your teeth without special devices and eat your favorite foods without dietary restrictions.
How does Invisalign work?
Invisalign begins with an initial consultation at our office to discuss your goals for treatment. If you are a good candidate for Invisalign, we will make dental impressions to create custom trays for your mouth. You will wear each set of aligners for approximately two weeks before replacing them with the next in the series. Your teeth will gradually move until they reach their projected final position at the end of treatment.
Am I a candidate for Invisalign?
Most patients are good candidates for Invisalign, including those with underbites, overbites, crowded teeth, gapped teeth and crooked teeth. However, for patients with severe dental issues, a different orthodontic treatment may be recommended. Invisalign is most effective in patients whose jaws are fully developed. For that reason, adults and older teens make better Invisalign candidates than children. Finally, an ideal candidate for Invisalign should be disciplined. Aligners must be worn on the teeth for the required 22 hours every day in order for treatment to progress on time. Patients who cannot commit to wearing their Invisalign aligners should seek an alternative treatment.
